Aura is Accredited in the Good Business Charter

Today Aura has been awarded an accreditation in the Good Business Charter.

The Good Business Charter is a simple accreditation which organisations in the UK can sign up to in recognition of responsible business practices.

It measures behaviour over 10 components: real living wage, fairer hours and contracts, employee well-being, employee representation, diversity and inclusion, environmental responsibility, paying fair tax, commitment to customers, ethical sourcing, and prompt payment.

An organisation must meet all 10 commitments to receive GBC accreditation. Open to private sector, public sector and charities of all sizes including a streamlined version for organisations with 50 employees or less.

In addition, Aura has paid an annual offset fee for its carbon footprint, albeit it minimal.

Aura has chosen to pay towards those most at risk and has given Carbon Footprint the funds to invest in international offset projects.

Five reasons why achieving sustainability accreditation is important for businesses

  1. Transparency for stakeholders - internally and externally (don’t forget internal stakeholders!)

  2. Monitor and evaluate - to spot gaps and opportunities and also to be able to report on your sustainable goals

  3. Identifying challenges and turning them into opportunities - if you work to a framework and strategy then you’ll be able to identify these more easily and do something about them

  4. Collaboration with other accredited businesses and organisations, joining together as an even bigger force for good

  5. Talent attraction and retention- good culture, good practice = good business

But we must also remember that we must act. We must not rely on offsetting as a solution. We must ethical reduce, change suppliers, chose different modes of transport, and critically, we all must take responsibility for our planet earth.
