Another great Italian opens in Glasgow’s west end
One of Scotland’s oldest and most respected Italian restaurants, La Lanterna, has opened a new restaurant, La Lanterna West, on Great Western Road.
Another place to take over an institution, La Lanterna West opened on the former site of La Parmagiana. Once a small, dark and intimate restaurant, La Lanterna West is now brightly lit, white and pale grey and blue, with fixed booth seating and a clean and fresh appeal.
Chris and Luca, the owners, were both there the night I visited with my family. The staff were on form, the menu was filled with all my favourites, from fresh langoustine to chicken milanese and the prosecco cocktails with fresh fruits were fabulous. I had a prosecco rosso.
The food was fantastic – I always love getting piping hot food. Our server, Jack, was highly efficient and had some good chat, too.
The ambience was great. Completely different from the previous restaurant. Of course in Glasgow you can’t dine out without bumping into people you know!
I’d recommend booking in advance and enjoying some great food and service. Parking is quite good on the nearby streets, but beware, you need to pay up until 10pm. Kelvinbridge underground station is a two minute walk, alternatively.
Scoring
Food – 4.5/5 Hot, tasty and a great choice
Service – 5/5 Jack knew the menu well, anticipated our needs and even had good chat
Atmosphere – 3.5/5 The music could have been a bit more consistent and a wee bit louder
Interiors – 4/5 Loved the interior although maybe a bit too white for a cosy dinner at winter?
Value – 3/5 The prices are relative to the Glasgow restaurant scene. It’s certainly not cheap but it’s worth it for the quality
Overall – 4/5 Definitely be a regular place to dine
